Photo Diary - The Nature of Things

Words and Images by Jason Waterhouse

So lately in my sculpture practice I have found myself being drawn to nature and organic materials as a starting point.  I need to man up and get back into cars.

This photo diary is an ode to sticks.

videology

there's never a dull moment when you work in a warehouse with three galleries, a french designer, a workaholic man-child with a penchant for making, three boisterous kids, a dog, an ever-revolving display of amazing hand-made and crafted design objects, clothing, art and an assortment of visiting people from far and wide.

i find myself compelled to document what goes on - you'll find photo diaries and videos on this blog - because it's the sort of hub of activity you know is generating something. activating energy.

i found this video of a recent opening that i totally forgot to post here, so i will now! we have a whole video channel set up over at vimeo if you ever want to look through what goes on. the art openings dominate because they are such exciting events. there's a link over there on the right hand side, 'STOCKROOM VIDEOS' >>>

Stefan, viewed again

i just realised that if you take the word 'review' quite literally, it means to look again. it makes me realise that when i read a review i am indeed looking again, in a way, at whatever is being discussed. only, it's looking through the eyes of another as if the reviewer is repeating their experience, for me. and it becomes a second 'viewing' of the work - a reconstruction for the benefit of those not there.

the wonderful Mila Faranov came in to the galleries recently and has written some of her thoughts in response to the work of Stefan Gevers. you can find them on this great blog called Stamm - click on Stefan's image here and be transported by the magic of digital code directly to the review:
