Lots of photos from the opening of Chicks with Knives, Curated by Kent wilson and featuring the work of Ann Brennan, Anna Davern, Brooke Wolsley, Beci Orpin, Lucy james, Sheridan Jones, Tai Snaith and Vexta.  In gallery 2 the is a solo exhibition by Laila Marie Costa titled Spirito Domesticus.

For the Launch we had live music by "The Minijupes" and covers of chick songs by Michael McManus and Leon Stackpole.  Nola Poorboy food truck served up tasty treats.  A generally good time was had by all.

We are now looking forward to doing it all again on Saturday 13 April for Rhett D'Costa and Fran Van Riemsdyk's exhibition launch.  Nola Poorboy will be back and sound will be provided by experimental Duo "Mount Macedon".

See you there!

Laila Marie Costa
Spirito Domesticus

In a world awash in imagery and the accumulation of the unused and unwanted, there are those among us revisiting, reworking and recycling for the purposes of a renewed imagining of life. After all, this is the way nature truly works.

Slicing and dicing their way through historical landscapes and cultural detritus, deftly decapitating and re- animating hybrid creatures, the blade-wielding dexterity of Ann Brennan, Anna Davern, Beci Orpin, Brooke Wolsley, Lucy James, Sheridan Jones, Tai Snaith and Vexta cartwheels into town as Chicks With Knives!!! A world of fractured form and ruptured realities is spun into shape in frozen moments, with colour and composition in temporary control of chaos.

Collecting the recyclable, Laila Costa takes the discarded waste of a consumerist society and repurposes it as art and design. Inspired by overlooked patterns, materials and forms in Spirito Domesticus, Laila carefully and considerately manipulates our given cultural reality into contemplative outcomes.
